What is Lindy Hop?

The original form of swing dance created in the 1920's and 1930's in Harlem. Danced to the jazz music of the time, the style evolved from tap, breakaway, and Charleston. After experiencing a revival in the 80s and 90s, Lindy Hop is now danced and performed around the world by people of all ages.

See Wikipedia's excellent article on the subject for more details.

What Does Lindy Hop Look Like?

Rather than try to explain it, here are a few of our favorite videos showing off the dance:

That Looks Awesome! How Can I Learn?

Thats what Swingmonkey is here for! Most dances have a beginner class just before the dancing, and there are more in-depth class series' being taught all the time! Go check out the calendar to find an event near you. We can't wait to see you on the dance floor!

About Swingmonkey

Swingmonkey.com was founded in 2001 by Greg Howley and C. Todd Lombardo as a single resource for information about Lindy Hop dances and lessons for Connecticut's growling Lindy Hop and swing dance community. As the community grew, Swingmonkey's reach expanded to collect information and connect dancers throughout the Northeastern United States.

In 2002, Michael Delaney came on board as site designer and developer and continues as the site's operator. As such, everything you see here is primarily his fault.

Now in its second decade, Swingmonkey.com is streamlined to make it quick and easy to find information about where to go dancing in the Northeast.
